The Sip-n-Scoop on What’s Trending in Spirits Today: Featuring Robert Simonson, New York Times, Paul Clarke, Imbibe Magazine and Heather Greene, Author and Sommelier

Join lauded experts from across the country for an insider's look at Bourbon industry trends - and what they mean for us. Led by moderator Susan Reigler, chemist, biologist, and author of multiple books including The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book, the panel will include Heather Greene, author of Whiskey Distilled: A Populist Guide to the Water of Life; Paul Clarke of Cocktail Chronicles and Imbibe magazine; and cocktail book author and New York Times reporter Robert Simonson, whose writing on whiskey has appeared in GQ, Imbibe, Whisky Advocate, and many more. Don't miss this opportunity as these heavy-hitters discuss the present and future of our beloved spirits.

Workshop Session Option 2 - 9:30AM to 10:30AM

The Keys to Stitzel-Weller: A Unique Walk Through Blade and Bow’s Solera System: Presented by Douglas Kragel, National Educator for North America-Diageo

Join Diageo Reserve’s National Educator on American Whiskey and native Kentuckian Doug Kragel on a unique deconstruction of Blade & Bow, the renowned new release from Stitzel-Weller, Louisville icon and home to the father of Bourbon. Doug will lead attendees through the production process and explain the unique “Solera System” that’s based at Stitzel-Weller Distillery. 


Workshop Session 3 - 11:00AM to 12:30PM

Chef’s Collaborative Workshop Session and Luncheon: Featuring Deb Paquette and Ouita Michel

Join renowned chefs Deb Paquette and Ouita Michel for a collaborative lunch celebrating Tennessee and Kentucky cuisines! Representing the Volunteer state, Chef Deb is known for her popular Nashville restaurants including Etch and Amerigo; Chef Ouita is famous throughout the Bluegrass state for Midway’s Holly Hill Inn, Wallace Station, Glenn’s Creek Café and Smithtown Seafood among her family of restaurants. The Chef’s Collaborative Workshop will feature a cooking presentation using spirits and products from Old Forge Distillery, with chefs Deb and Ouita on-hand to guide attendees through flavors and profiles. Enjoy a spectacular lunch from these two leading chefs and hear how they craft each component of their regional plates.

 


Bulleit Frontier Whiskey at Stitzel-Weller Distillery Excursion

Stitzel-Weller Distillery: Experience the Past, Celebrate the Future

Originally opened on Derby Day in 1935 and reopened to the public in 2014, the Stitzel-Weller Distillery is one of the true cathedrals of the American whiskey industry. Located only five miles from downtown Louisville, the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Experience is one of the most convenient and impressive stops along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

 

* All Distillery Excursion participants are required to wear flat, closed-toe shoes to safely participate in the excursion experience.


Lux Row Distillery Excursion

1:15PM - 5:00PM

Experience a new kind of distillery tour and meet Michelle Lux, Creative Director and Lux family member! Lux Row Distillery opened in April 2018 with four distinct brands: Rebel Yell, Ezra Brooks, David Nicholson and Blood Oath – all produced under one roof. Your tour will include a one-of-a-kind perspective on the whiskey-making process. Begin with a walking tour of the distillery site which has six barrel warehouses and a 43-foot custom copper still and will conclude with an educational Bourbon tasting and chocolate pairing.

Old Forester Distillery Excursion

2:00PM - 5:00PM

On June 14, 2018, Old Forester Distilling Co. opened an impressive, new Bourbon and tourism experience in the heart of Downtown Louisville. Their return to Louisville’s historic Whiskey Row harkens back to the heritage and authenticity of America’s First Bottled Bourbon in this state-of-the-art facility that celebrates Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky and the role of Bourbon in Louisville’s history. The distillery and Bourbon experience will be a world-class distilling operation and visitor’s destination showcasing the craftsmanship of Old Forester.

Wind Up to Wind Down Reception

6:00PM - 7:00PM - The Brown Hotel

Join your fellow Bourbon Women on the rooftop of the Brown Hotel for a blind tasting of some of the industry’s leading offerings. Take an hour to shake off a busy day of Bourbon immersion with a little more of the good stuff before jumping into our Saturday night events ranging from private Bourbon tastings to private Bourbon dinners to some of Louisville’s finest Bourbon restaurants!

President’s Sampler Bourbon Tasting
Muhammad Ali Suite, The Brown Hotel

Join Peggy in her private home for a night of warmth, humor, fun, and true southern hospitality that will include more than a few surprise Bourbons from Pam Heilmann and Andrea Wilson of Michter’s Distillery. Enjoy a menu of southern-inspired fare designed exclusively for the occasion by Susan Hershberg, founder of Louisville’s beloved Wiltshire Pantry with locally-sourced food made on-site by Executive Chef Jonathan Exum, with no less by way of fine spirits and custom cocktails than you would expect from our legendary founder. It’s a southern summer night’s party, so go ahead and have “Noe” boundaries to your Bourbon experience!

Embark on a true culinary adventure with a chef’s table demonstration in Louisville’s famous Brown Hotel. Enjoyed right in the restaurant's working kitchen alongside the Brown Hotel’s English Grill Executive Chef James Adams, this special four-course experience allows guests an opportunity to dine in the hotel's main kitchen while enjoying a lively conversation with Chef Adams on topics ranging from ingredients, Bourbon and cooking techniques to the art of making exquisite cuisine. The Bourbon-infused meal is prepared with wine pairings from the English Grill's sommelier. Enjoy an unforgettable, immersive dining experience steeped in hospitality, warmth and pure southern tradition. Join Bourbon Women board member Monica Wolf at her private residence, in the historic Butchertown neighborhood, for a dinner led by famed Chef Edward Lee. Four-time James Beard Award nominee, owner of Louisville restaurants 610 Magnolia, Milkwood and Whiskey Dry and the author of Smoke and Pickles, Chef Lee will be on hand throughout the evening to guide guests through the flavors and influences that inform his unique approach to southern fusion. Begin with hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and mingling before settling in to Monica’s beautifully restored 1850s brick home for an exclusive, multi-course meal with guided cocktails-and-pours pairings led by Monica, Churchill Downs’ Bourbon Ambassador and founder and managing partner of The Spirits Group. Guests are free to retire to the gorgeously landscaped patio to complete the evening – and enjoy one another’s company – with dessert under the stars.
