The Bardstown SCENTsory Experience with Jaz’min Weaver
Examine your senses like never before with Bardstown Bourbon Company’s National Brand Ambassador, Jaz’min Weaver. Dive into this bespoke sensory experience which focuses on the exploration and the importance of smell. This tasting isolates lone sensory components as well as fragrance combinations. Each spirit has a perfume/fragrance associated with it to explore as you sip through the BBC lineup. These fragrances were designed by an expert perfumer and cocktail scientist to capture the unique notes of each Origin Series release. The experience is designed to take guests through an educational and playful format to identify everyday flavors from home in their favorite whiskies.
The Role of the Rickhouse: A Blind Exploration with Kyle Merklein and Jordan Germano of Holladay Distillery
Join Holladay Distillery’s Master Distiller Kyle Merklein as he dives into the rickhouse and aging details that make all the difference in achieving a desired taste profile, with an emphasis on the aging process. The magic of aging varies by the barrel, storage structure, region, climate, square footage, and of course time. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a blind one barrel selection while tasting bourbon from barrels aged in different locations around one of the Holladay rickhouses. Learn how the placement and position of the barrel in the rickhouse makes a huge difference in the flavor developing in the barrel. Put your taste buds to the test to see if you can identify the proof, storage floor, and age!
Playing with Fire: Exploring Staving Finishing Processes with Char Levels and Toast with Zach ‘Leroy’ Jones, Bradley Jones of J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery
Join Zach Jones, Head of Barrel Crafting at J. Mattingly 1845, as he unveils the secrets of enhancing bourbon with American White Oak Staves through their signature double-staved crafting process. With his team, including Bradley Jones, Zach explains the J Mattingly difference by delving into their unique crafting methods developed since 2020, focusing on non-traditional maturation techniques that infuse complex, layered flavors without blending spirits. From Tap to Tipple: Water is Bourbon’s Best Friend with Louisville Water Time: 1:40 PM – 4:15 PM
Spend time with bourbon’s best friend, Louisville Water! For more than 160 years, Louisville Water has supplied an important part of the bourbon recipe, water. This excursion includes a look at how Louisville Water produces millions of gallons of drinking water and why it’s considered one of the highest-quality tap waters in North America. Plus, you’ll participate in a water tasting (yes, it’s a water tasting) to learn the science of drinking water and how the aesthetics and chemical balance can impact the taste of the water and bourbon. Bonus: you’ll step inside the oldest standing water tower in the United States and you’ll tour Louisville Water’s pumping station. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes! Tour of Louisville Water Works – inside the Water Tower, the historic/current pumping stations on the property. Tour includes an overview of Louisville Water’s history with bourbon and a high-level look at water’s link to public health and one of Kentucky’s signature industry. The Louisville Water Tower is a museum and guests will have some time in the museum that highlights the history of Louisville Water. Look at the science of water for bourbon production and how the sensory aspects of water impact your perception of a certain kind of water (we put a lot of emphasis on taste in Louisville). One of our scientists will briefly join to highlight this aspect. A tasting of four kinds of water – comparing the profiles, the origins and attendee perceptions. Flavor at Foxhollow: A Journey with Maker’s Mark Time: 1:40 PM – 5:30 PM
Join Maker’s Mark for a fun and educational afternoon at Foxhollow Farm. You will hear from Kim Harmon (General Manager) and Valerie Netherton (Director of Sustainability) of Maker’s Mark on the importance of conservation and research efforts ongoing at Star Hill Farm, home to Make’s Mark Distillery. They will discuss how healthy soil yields more flavor; bourbon is naturally distilled after all. Taste a yet-to-be-released bourbon with Beth Buckner, Senior Manager for Innovation, and learn about the difference in process to achieve those flavors. Take a walk around the farm with 4 generation steward of Foxhollow Farm, Maggie Keith and see (and later taste) firsthand how biodynamic agriculture nourishes the land which produces more flavorful food to nourish us. You’ll enjoy some bites made from the ingredients grown and raised on the farm alongside a Maker’s Mark cocktail workshop utilizing ingredients from Star Hill Farm. An Afternoon with Old Carter with Sherri Carter and Lisa Wicker
Join Sherri Carter (Dobay), co-founder/blender of Old Carter Whiskey Co, as she takes you on a journey through the Art of Bourbon. Spend the afternoon in the whimsical world of her art studio just off Whiskey Row where we will create a blend of your own! Play with Sherri as she walks you through her process of creating a symphony of aromas and flavors with a mini blend of whiskey to take home with you. In addition, we will round out the afternoon with a twist, sipping and painting your own little canvas! Come to be inspired and express your inner creative genius. Bonus! We will have a very special guest on board… Lisa Roper Wicker: crazy whiskey person and storyteller! Distillation Deep Dive with Starlight Distillery: Time 1:40 PM – 5:30 PM
Starlight Distillery in Indiana is an award-winning distillery with a history of innovation and excellence. This excursion dives into the unique experiences the Starlight team offers visitors. Upon arrival, you will be guided on a tour of the production facility. Next, SIP attendees will be connected with our distilling team to take a deep dive into distillation, finishing barrels, and a tasting from one of our five Rickhouses along with a complimentary SD tasting glass. As an extra add-on, guests could choose to bottle fill their own Starlight Distillery bottle. This is a new experience for anyone attending Starlight. You must use the bus transportation provided.
Whiskey and Leather: A Blending Experience by Virginia Distillery Co. Time: 1:40 PM – 5:15 PM
We celebrate our most awarded American Single Malt Whiskey, Courage & Conviction while highlighting the Bourbon country-born maker of the highest quality leather goods, Clayton & Crume. Upon arrival, guests will be greeted with hors d’oeuvres and a signature cocktail, setting the tone for an immersive experience. A representative from Clayton & Crume will then take you on a journey through their brand story, showcasing the craftsmanship and heritage behind their premium leather goods. Next, Virginia Distillery Company will take the stage to give a captivating presentation on the American Single Malt whiskey category and their signature brand, Courage & Conviction.
After exploring the brand & whiskies, attendees will have the opportunity to create their own blend! Each participant will be provided a small blending kit featuring samples of Courage & Conviction whiskies (fully matured in ex-Bourbon, European red wine, and Sherry casks) to craft a blend that reflects their taste preferences. After blending your masterpiece, you’ll have the option to pre-purchase a 750ml bottle version of your personalized whiskey, complete with your name and blend ratios added to the bottle. Your creation will be meticulously crafted on-site in Virginia and shipped to you in the following months, allowing you to savor the fruits of your labor at home. Art of Blending with Ashley Barnes
Join Master Blender Ashley Barnes of The Blending House and The Spirits Group as she guides you through a bourbon experience like no other. She will share her process and pull back the curtain on how blending shapes a bourbon. She’ll walk you through some of the variables she considers and how those details make a difference in the final product. Guests will taste two lab-blended samples, E.J. Curley Small Batch, Lucky Seven Workhorse, and Lucky Seven New Yorker. 5 cups to a person, ½ oz pours.
Fields of Flavor: Grain’s Impact on Your Favorite Whiskies a Panel with Becky Harris, Amanda Beckwith, Melinda Maddox, and Ann Marshall
Join Rebecca Harris of Catoctin Creek, Amanda Beckwith with Virginia Distilling Company, Melinda Maddox with Old Elk Distillery and Ann Marshall with High Wire Distilling as they lead your through a tasting and sensory exploration of how different grains impact things like flavor, nose, texture and finish. As you taste your way through mostly single grain expressions, you’ll learn key insights of on how and why grain builds that backbone of the distilled spirit and explore how that changes our favorite whiskies. These panelists will dive deep how grain impacts every part of spirit production and experience.
Know Your Grains: a Blind Bourbon Tasting with Jeptha Creed and Joyce Nethery
You’re no stranger to sipping bourbon, but are you aware of the nuances in your glass? Learn how to taste through bourbons like a true savant with Jeptha Creed’s Joyce Nethery. In this class, you’ll be guided through the steps it takes to truly appreciate Bourbon for all its complexity. Joyce will introduce you to methods of examining specific colors, smells, and flavor notes of Jeptha Creed Bourbon. You’ll then have a chance to put your abilities to the test with a blind tasting! In the blind tasting you will be given marked samples of mashbill then unmarked samples of Jeptha Creed Bourbon, and you will have to use your newly found skills to identify each sample. You’ll take notes on each of the anonymous samples and detail your analysis. When you feel confident that you’ve correctly identified the Bourbons, you’ll have a chance to explain your reasoning and see if you’re now a Jeptha Creed Bourbon tasting professional! Prizes will be awarded to those who have mastered the art of analyzing a pour.
The Proof is in the Barrel: How Barrel-Entry Proof Affects Flavor with Katherine O’Nan and Andrea Wilson
In this session you will enjoy the experience of tasting through various proof whiskeys to learn the influences proof can make. Michter’s enters all its whiskeys into the barrel at 103 proof creating a rich smooth and easy to drink profile. In this blind tasting you will compare the same aged whiskey entered into wood at 103 proof vs 125 proof at bottling strength and barrel strength. Learn about this and other philosophies of Michter’s.
Why Bourbon Matters with Susan Reigler

Spirited Trailblazers: Women in Whiskey Innovation through the Ages with Kate Douglas & Megan Noel Johnson of Keeper’s Heart
This seminar will follow women’s innovations throughout history from brewing and early distillation through the rise of spirits into current day American whiskey – tackling emerging categories, techniques, and brand building. Believing strongly in a hands-on approach to history, we will have the opportunity for attendees to see evolution in milled grain, smell a series of distilled products from perfume to spirits, and taste innovative whiskeys like American Single Pot Still whiskey. Ultimately, we want folks to walk away understanding that women’s curiosity and drive have always held a place in the story of spirits, and that women continuing to be innovative will only strengthen the industry across the board.
